Sod is typically used in residential construction to establish a lawn quickly. While it may seem like a one-size-fits-all solution for new homeowners, sod comes with some challenges. The good news is that they can be easily managed with the proper care following installation. As your lawn care partner, we'll help you keep your sod in tip-top shape so you'll have a yard you’ll love long term!

Since sod is grown in ideal soil and nutrient conditions, your new grass needs plenty of care to thrive in your new lawn. With proper care your once vulnerable sod will acclimate, grow roots in the new soil, and resist disease.

Three Must Dos:

  1. Water throughout the day! Sod is extremely difficult to over-water, and hydrating the grass is what stimulates it to grow roots in your new lawn. You can taper your watering routine to a less frequent pace after 3-4 weeks.
  2. Don’t stress your sod! New grass can be delicate, so don’t go on it - or let anyone else on it - until after the first mowing, which should happen at roughly two weeks. Also be sure to mow high (less than 1/3 of the grass blade) to minimize stress. (Read more mowing tips here.)
  3. Give your sod an extra boost! Sod needs regularly applied slow release nutrients to help spur new growth. Additionally, it is helpful to monitor for pest/weed/disease since newly installed sod is very vulnerable!

If you're installing new sod, make sure you check in with us early in the process. We'll work with you to get the right services scheduled at the right time to help you create the lawn of your dreams.
